Bobby Burke
1949-2012
JAUNT Board Vice President Bobby Burke passed away on New Year’s Day. This charming man was a staunch advocate for public transportation, walkable communities and accessible services. He joined the JAUNT Board as a Charlottesville representative in 2006, then when he moved to Albemarle, the County reappointed him. In addition to his most recent role as Vice President of JAUNT’s governing body, he had also served as Secretary from 2009 to 2011 and served on the JAUNT Friends Board (our nonprofit arm), providing us with our very first Secretary. But long before Bobby officially joined the JAUNT Board, he had been attending JAUNT Board meetings, just to be able to provide us with input, as well as to keep his colleagues apprised of changes or concerns from JAUNT. Not many people would take the time to sit through meetings of a group they were not officially a part of. As his final gift to JAUNT, his family has designated JAUNT Friends as the recipient of memorial gifts.
Bobby’s humor, dedication and knowledge are sorely missed.
